I have used Stone Circle for several years after our long time CPA retired. The questionnaire forms and paperwork before filing are detailed, and the attention to our taxes has always been quick and accurate. The fee is acceptable for such personal attention. I have only had one question in years, and Kristi responded quickly to my query. All electronic interaction, a secure portal for your documents, and I got a discount for filing early! I trust Stone Circle with our taxes.

We have used Stone Circle for years and never had an issue. We had an independent accountant that joined this firm and then retired.
Never once had a bad experience.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Melissa N.Hanover, MD512092May 6, 2018Updated review
I STILL have no received my state income tax refund. I did however get to witness a tantrum by the accountant that messed up my taxes when I went in the sign the adjustment and get a refund. My opinion on this place and the level of professionalism and attention to detail has not changed.

Melissa,
Amended returns take between 8 and 16 weeks to process. If you have not received your refund within this time period and would like assistance, please feel free to contact our office.
Melissa,
We're sorry you were unsatisfied with your experience at Stone Circle Associates. We take our work very seriously, and while it is unfortunate, Stone Circle freely admits that a mistake was made with your return. When you notified me of the error on Friday, I responded quickly letting you know I was out of the office on family business and that I would correct the mistake first thing Saturday morning. Stone Circle corrected the issue by 10 AM Saturday, notified you of the changes and requested your availability so that we could review the returns with you as well as return the fees you were charged for preparing your return as an additional apology for the error.
While we understand your frustration, please know that your treatment of our staff while in our offices is not acceptable to us. We are a small, family owned practice, and we pride ourselves on the quality of service we provide and relationships we establish with our clients.
We again apologize for the mistake that was made, but we would encourage you to seek another practice in the future. We wish you the best in your continued transition into civilian life.Mar 16, 2018Previous reviewI came here because I have never paid taxes in MD, and had a somewhat complicated tax situation this year so I thought it would be best to go to a professional to avoid mistakes and maximize my return. I thought wrong.
The initial consult went fine. I gave Kristi my documents and was asked to provide a few more---to include last years taxes. I turned it all it in and then was told to come pick the results up. I walked in and someone else walked in and stood in line behind me. I was expecting to go into the office with the preparer and get debriefed on the results. Instead, the receptionist gave me the results--in front of another customer. I was informed that I actually OWED taxes which shocked me. I repeated what she said because I was so shocked and she very rudely retorted "that IS what I said" and then laughed at me. Instead of asking if I wanted to speak to someone, she demanded payment. She then copped an attitude again when I asked her if the payment was in addition to the money I had already given her (how silly of me!...turns out she read me the wrong total, so I was right to ask).
I thankfully saw Kristi in the hall and asked to speak with her as I felt that something was off about the results. She insisted she was right but went to review the info. We went in her office and she again insisted she did everything correctly and that the issue was that I didn't own my house long enough to really get the tax benefit. I was still skeptical but since she is the tax professional, I just assumed I didn't understand taxes and accepted it.
Yesterday, I decided to satisfy my curiosity and went back over things. As it turns out, she took my 2016 wages and ADDED them to my 2017 wages and put that on my 2017 tax return. As a result, it looked like I had made wayyyy more money than I did (I recently got out of the military so I knew I was going to make a lot more than I did but not THAT much more).
I emailed Kristi and she was very casual about the whole thing, it read very much like I was having a friend do my taxes as a favor vice someone I had paid. There did not appear to be any urgency to finding or fixing this. I then called the office and asked to speak to the actual owner of Stone Circle. The receptionist Carolyn once again spoke to me like I was her 10 year old daughter rather than a paying customer, she was rude, dismissive and the interaction was quite nasty. She too seemed to treat this like a minor annoyance rather than the 32k mistake that it was, that it was absurd that I would dare call and ask to address this today. She told me that the owner wasn't in and that she "didn't know" when he would be in the office. It does not seem to occur to them that they have negatively impacted my life and finances and that due to it being the height of tax season, it will likely take a while for the IRS to return the check I sent them. I also don't really trust that they are going to come to an accurate result now once they do "get around" to fixing it. In short, I paid someone to mess up my taxes and will now have to redo them to make sure they are right. You live you learn I guess. If you do go here for taxes, be sure to double check their work! But then again, if you paid them, should you have to? - Ethel B.Severn, MD01Mar 30, 2020
Kristi at Stone Circle Associates Tax & Accounting reviewed my tax documents. She didn't provide great customer service, in fact she was rude. Thankfully after nearly 3 weeks they completed my 2019 tax return.

Ethel - thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. We are sorry you felt our services did not meet your expectations and did not realize you were unsatisfied with how we conducted ourselves during the several hours we spent with you over the course of preparing your return. You are correct, our office should have notified you that there was going to be less than a $5 adjustment to your Maryland Refund (in your favor), and we thank you for your patience with our timelines during this unprecedented health crisis as we ensure the safety of our employees. We wish the best for you and all of your loved ones during this time.
