The City of Laurel was incorporated as a town in 1870. That was the year the General Assembly of Maryland passed an act to "put Laurel on its own," so to speak. The Act was signed by Governor Oden Bowie on April 4, 1870. The City established its present form of government in 1870 when the First Mayor of Laurel was elected. The current Mayor of Laurel, the Honorable Craig A. Moe, was sworn in as Mayor on March 25, 2002.The Mayor is, and has always been, extremely interested in what his constituents are concerned about, so please let him know.
